“I want you to get swept away out there. I want you to levitate. I want you to sing with rapture and dance like a dervish…
…Because the truth is, there’s no sense in living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven’t lived a life at all.”
A few years ago I woke up to a life beyond my imagination. It was more than I knew to ask for, far more than I ever expected… and so I tried to honor that by living as fully as possible.
But a piece was missing. I didn’t think anything was lacking, and I wasn’t searching for it. That’s a beautiful place to be – one I hope every person can experience – to be so fulfilled that in order to bring another into the mix, it would have to be a person who could make the great even greater.
So you wander along, new experience after new experience, but still, something is missing. Some one. Your person, to experience it all with. There are people with whom you share the stories, but no one along the path as it all unfolds. There are amazing friends and beautiful relationships, where you even find yourself thinking “I hope that if I do find someone, she’s exactly like you.”
But that’s as far as you let your head and heart take it.
In the meantime you get to work. Figuring out your why. Trying to give back. Finding something beyond yourself because know you’ve been given a second chance at a life we only get once, and at the end you hope you’ll have done enough for them to say “You didn’t waste this.” You get ready, even if you’re not sure for what.
Then one night you find yourself staring into the eyes of someone who has been there all along, with whom you’ve shared these stories, and you realize they are the story. They are the why. All the work, the growth, the reaching beyond yourself was to get you to a point where you would be ready for someone not just exactly like her, but exactly her. You levitate. You dance. You find those words echoing in your mind, and they’ve never been more true – that for as great as your life has become, there’s no sense in having all of it without this. Without her.
You fall. You love. And now every story will be the ones you write together.
